Cat - Yeah, I have a pair of pants that's about a size too big but that I really like. I can belt them enough to wear them but I'd like to narrow the legs from knee down to the cuffs and bring the waist in a bit. Is this even feasible for a novice such as I?

That style of hook is annoying to move

it looks like the CB is alterable, though also annoying

...I dislike doing alterations, so understand that it colors my perspective

good news: the seams are plain seams, not felled (like jeans) so not that terrible to take in

I would leave the serging as is (the thread wrapping holding the two edges fo the seam allowance together)

the inner waistband is one piece, no CB seam

this means the best alteration there has a dart

So I will need to learn to do that. ((nod))

yeah - you will want to remove the blue tags to cut down on bulk

You safety pin the CB at waist, and taper it back tot he original seam, somewhere around your booty

turn pants inside out. Mark where pins are w/chalk or pencil

looking inside at the waist:

Basically, taking out a pie wedge

Then, fold the pants so the crotch seam to waist is lying flat

Stitch the angle together

blue is original stitching, red is the alteration:

so you see how new stitches go into old ones?

and then, you kind of squish the dart flat like a box pleat

The alternative way is less bulky, but more complicated

I have seen darts done and had them explained but never DONE them.
