Performing a bunk isn’t about being silly or obnoxious per
se, but about disrupting Banality’s hold on the area just enough
to make magic easier. As such, showy, shocking bunks tend
to be more effective. Of course, if the changeling is going for
subtlety or dignity, she needs to tailor her bunk accordingly;
sidhe are particular masters at making an impression without
looking ridiculous.
Some bunks do not provide a benefit to the cantrip unless
the accompanying action succeeds. For example, Amaria the
eshu jumps up onto the steps of the court building and begins
singing to attract the attention of everyone nearby. The Storyteller
calls for a roll for the performance, but the player fails
the roll. Everyone pretends not to notice the strange woman
singing to herself, and Amaria’s bunk does not lower the difficulty
of the cantrip because she did not draw attention to
herself as intended.
