I did not follow the Olympics. I have not followed the Olympics in several years. This would explain why was not, until today, aware of the Women's Modern Pentathlon competition (fencing, swimming, riding [show jumping], running, shooting). It would explain, also, why Coradel was not aware of this She is now. It's on her radar as Fun Thing To Do.

Thing is, they don't get to ride their own horses. They get assigned horses by lottery, 20 minutes before the competition. It's not always a good match up.

Yeah, it's a rough situation all around & kind of bad for both horses & riders

Also, August is not likely to do very well in Pentathlon. He tends to land on his head.

And honestly, for a lot of these pentathletes, the riding is their weakest sport because they don't have regular access to a horse. I the one I'm watching, one woman's bio says she runs daily, shoots and fences three times a week, and rides TWICE A MONTH. No wonder there's a lot of difficulty.
