Because you can see the TV, but they can't see what you're doing. It's perceived as inequitable.

Meanwhile the Midrealm is having a meltdown about Armistice

Apparently, Armistice is a SUPER SPECIAL event that requires the approval of the Society Seneschal and the BoD to hold a practice or demo there, not just the typical local Seneschal/host group

2: They keep saying read the Handbook. Cool. Handbook says a demo can happen if there is a sponsoring group & their seneschal signs off on it.

When asked about point 2 - is the issue that there's talk of a demo but not sponsoring group, Midrealm Seneschal comes back with the new claim that no, no, no - the BOD has decreed no SCA presence at the event they rented out the Pennsic tents to!

This is a SPECIAL evil bad event that requires higher level permission to hold a demo at than any other demo before

I've been a Seneschal - held demos at community festivals - that is, non SCA events. Seen SCA demos at Ren Faires, and Highland Games, and comic cons...

Um. Well...Armistice is different, as I see it. Initially, it wasn't supposed to have any fighting or classes. It was supposed to be an opportunity for campmates to get together with friends they haven't seen in a while, check out the gear, and mostly so the merchants could sell some of the stuff they haven't been able to sell because of the lack of events. But then people started adding more and more stuff to what might go on there...and I don't blame Kingdom or BOD getting a little anxious about what might happen that would get attached to the SCA name.

And if they didn't go about it in a passive-aggressive manner, I might be less annoyed

In the current climate, I just see a LOT of potential for some folks who got R&D'd to show up ("It's not an SCA event, so you can't kick me out!") and do something fucking idiotic, so I really understand the need to emphasize that this is not and SCA event. Saying so loudly and often on official social media pages is one way of establishing that legally.

Sure. But it shouldn't take pulling teeth to get them to say directly that the SCA is taking a firm stance prohibiting a demo by a branch.

Demos, by the rules, can control who participates.
