Well, our country's money dynamics were established early based on slave work. So the tasks that were once done by slaves or indentured servants are still considered justifiably low-wage. And yeah, the 'masters required' thing gets justified by 1) "we need to see that you can stick to a goal over the long term," and 2) "we intend to hire from within, so you need to have the degree you'll eventually need if you get promoted"...but it still ain't right.
