Dearest Diary, Sister and I have found the manor deserted, save for that dubious man who smells of dog. Mama said she had to retire to South Carolina to seek out quality people which we have not had the pleasure of meeting. We were told it would only be for brief period, but oh how the hours creep by at a pace both tedious and yet trepidatious.
We occupy ourselves as best we may, as genteel young kittens ought. Sister has tried to devour my tail, and I in turn, have shoved her off elevated perches when her attention lacked focus. One must not think we hunger, the dog lover, apparently on task from mama, has thus far come down and provided repast as needful, but one cannot speak highly of the service. In truth, he lacks both the plating and high quality dressage we have come to expect thanks to mother's mannerly instruction. Eve, who as I have mentioned before is far too forward atimes, attempted to illicit extra strokes from him but reported to me his cat petting skills were rather simplistic and not as worshipful as required. Horrified and yet filled with macabre interest, I myself decided to partake.
Land a Goshin, one could tell why he had been mostly assigned to the kennels to tend dogs. Where were the ten minutes chin scritches, side strokes, and being told what lovely young ladies we were? Oh he was gentle in his way, but did not fuss over near enough, and no comparisons to queens of sheba or princesses of the night were made at all! I fear without proper adoration, sister and I shall wither away entire afore dear mother returns. He did attempt to let us hone our huntress skills. It behooves a lady to practice bringing death from anything that flees our presence for having nine lives, we are near immortal, and running away from us rightly attracts our attention.
But sister, while I would not say this aloud to others, is quite prone to hogging the stringy dangle hopper, though my strikes were fewer they were quality; she still kept much of the hunt to herself. I did rather enjoy slaughtering the large red ribbon which did provoke me so impertinently but so grossly inexperienced was Mr. Doglover, that he did not even find the creator of the light dot that I so enjoy chasing! Oh Diary, I could lose all patience!
And then he was off, no doubt to watch the glow box upstairs which so occupies time that would be better spent on us!
I fear at this pace, the entire situation will become even more intolerable than it already is. Eve says we must be brave for mama, but I have pointed out a plan that if this neglect continues, we might be able to trip him to his doom, as quite the fashion among the cat formals else where. I do believe she is on board..
We shall see.
With abiding affection and self reflection, I remain Dee "Pretty Girl" Eastep.
