What I found was kestrels or red tails as beginning birds, but harris hawks are also recommended for novices

Kestrels can be problematic because they are so small, they can be easily hurt by a clumsy handler

goshawks are harder. 😄

Apparently training a hawk is easy - it generally only takes about 3 weeks. Training a FALCONER, on the other hand...

Fun Fact: Kestrels are the only bird of prey that can hover. Technically they can only hover by using the wind, but I fudged it a bit because it's cool
