In an SCA knighting ceremony, there's a part where the master knight hits the newly-knighted squire, saying "Let this be the last blow you take unanswered." Usually it's a punch in the chest or a slap. It's an accepted tradition.

One woman WORKED HER ASS OFF to become the FIRST female knight in Atlantia (a kingdom that's well over 30 years old.)

At her knighting ceremony, the knight hauls off an slaps her.

Then he slaps her AGAIN.

I am Sir Innogen of Clonmel. Today I had the honor to become a knight of the Kingdom of Atlantia. I understand that there is now controversy regarding the buffets I received from and the one I returned to His Grace Duke Michael of Bedford.
This greatly saddens me because during the years I spent as his squire he and I have become, as Michael just put it, “the closest of friends.” I cannot emphasize enough that there was no anger on either mine or Michael’s part.
It was very important to me to receive a proper buffet as part of becoming a knight and Michael knew this. We had spoken at length about this. During the buffet ceremony Michael barely touched me with the first two blows and I knew it, this is why I remained in place for the third. The third was a proper buffet.
After the third Michael quietly said to me “one back.” I struck him back, not out of anger, but because it was my job to return a blow. His Grace and I each played the role we were cast.
Today was wonderful. I know Michael and many others worked very hard to make this day special for me and I am deeply appreciative. Michael and I will continue our friendship. His support, training and care have made this possible for me and I could not ask for a greater friend."
