It also helps if you can have a self-view on the display - mine, at least, the camera jumps so it helps to check where I am landing

We use Google Meet. And students don't have to put their cameras on at home. I'll insist on cameras on at school. All of the kids will have to be on the Meet so they can interact, even if they're in the room with me. I'm not sure what you mean about checking where you're landing.

it tracks voices in the room, so it isn't a fixed camera

so I need to double check if I am in frame when they need to see a specific thing

Valencia is very particular; she doesn't fall asleep or really crawl ON any of us. She will (rarely) curl up next to me and doze.
