Am listing all of the office junk on CraigsList and dealing with some potentially unrealistic expectations

We have a 12' MASSIVE custom quartersawn oak solid hardwood table that was in our conference room. Boss told me to figure out pricing. I got an offer of $800 from a friend, and then Boss said "no, try for at least $1500"

...

Now I look like the ass. Why tell me to figure out the prices if you're going to countermand me once I do and have a buyer?!

Yeah, it was worth like $4000 when we got it. That was like 10 years ago, it hasn't been kept up well or oiled, and there are pen marks on it

You know...Split the difference. Ask for $1100. Still wiggle room for somebody to think they're getting a bargain when they finally work you down to $800.

I relisted it for $1500 and if someone lowballs, I'll ask my friend if he wants to match. Or if no one goes for it or makes an offer, I have authority to sell it at $800... assuming he still wants it later

Except boss had told me to figure out the price myself, so I listed it at $1k and got an offer for $800

Going back to my friend and saying "now Boss wants $1500" was rough

I will make sure to nag him for prices on anything else before I take it. 😛 Mostly it's just office stuff, bog standard desks and chairs and whiteboards, and I'm basically just checking the original price and slicing that in half or less
