Duchy of the Inland Empire
One of the most powerful duchies, the Inland Empire begins in San Diego County and stretches north across the western two-fifths of Riverside and a good swath of southwestern San Bernadino as well. It is rightly termed the Inland Empire, incorporating a vast sea of urban sprawl and fertile rural lands. Nine counts serve Duchess Quezon, perhaps one of the most fiery and flamboyant members of House Fiona. She rules from her seat in San Diego, where she takes a particular interest in both latino culture and the zoo there. She is a known favorite in Queen Aeron's court, perhaps at least in part because she makes such rare appearances at it, usually unnannounced and always dazzling.

This duchy is as much a maze of allegiances and alliances as it is of towns and suburbs. It is brimming over with fae, commoners and nobles alike, all jostling for position, land, or just survival. The desolate desert is only a stone's throw away to the east, meaning most of the populace is packed into the band along the coast between San Diego and the greater Los Angeles area. There is a strong latino-fae community and a thriving atmosphere of change.

There's a small little event in San Diego County which has become a mecca for Pooka throughout the Southwest: the annual Pegleg Smith Liars' contest just north of Borrego Springs every first saturday of April. The winner becomes Grand Prevaricator, the Great Fabricator, and sundry other titles. Every Pooka vies for this honor, but competition is steep and the mortal populace which comes for the event gives them a run for their money, as well as the occasional Eshu, Piskie, or other wandering mischief-maker.
