my brain had a notion

A sewing notion?

I was wondering about an old apartment where I used to live

(FB conversation about infrastructure/city planning which devastates black neighborhoods)

so I decided to go look at where I lived in Columbus

and - this is what makes me happy, because it has been some times since I lived there

but I am almost ENTIRELY CERTAIN the lady on the front stoop in street view is Miss West

I don't know how recent the streetview view is

Miss West fed the neighborhood cats and squirrels. Miss West knew EVERY HUMAN SOUL on the block. Miss West rescued me when I locked myself out of my running car during a snowstorm.

So, the building had roaches, and that sucked. And living on the third floor, it got so hot I kept the windows open in the winter.

But it was also the most sociable apt complex I ever livied in, and, like, two of the long-time little old ladies there adopted me

A social housing situation like that is rare these days.

Betty, meanwhile fed me pork & sauerkraut and gave me her old reader's digests so I'd have something to read during tech weeks.

Folks would actually hang out on the front stoop and talk.

My body is so mad at me. "Okay, yeah, you did the aerobic thing yesterday, and we let that pass, but now you did it again TODAY, and we muscles are gonna organize against you!"

A mouse, you say?

Yup. Woke up at #$#$ing in the early morning...hear a scuffling. turn light on, nearly step on the #$#$ing thing. Imagining the crunch of little bones I nearly fall over.. it zips.. and goes right onto the glue trap. Feisty thing.

And I take the glue trap up, trying to decide if I'm going to put this in a zip lock bag and let it die that way, or find a way to free it.. far far from here

Housemate who loves small furry things is in the kitchen.

choice of whether there's a lot of hassle and it lives, or if it dies and gets trashed is now out of my hand because my friend has that damned look that all ranger players everywhere get.

Sigh So... Neville or whatever name they would later give it has the glue dissolved by some coconut oil...and is moved to a 'live trap'.

And later was dropped off about a mile away in a forest

I didn't go to sleep until 8 am
