Ahhh, she did a follow up: "SCA Laurels is a Laurels-only FB group. A discussion started a few days ago about "the Laurels", of whom the group represents a tiny minority signing a values statement regarding being inclusive and anti racist and a bunch of stuff that I stand for, but did not wish to sign a statement about, for my own reasons. Today, predictably, the accusations began that if you don't sign you must be a racist. Got no time for this."

I know this woman, and she is no more racist than I am.

Well...I thought "Black Lives Matter" was a pretty problematic slogan at first, but I get it now. There's no good way to short-hand that idea. And I think there's no good way to short-hand the ideas about reallocating police budgets to other interventions...but a dumbass slogan makes sure people talk about it, even if they misunderstand it at first.

when every conversation starts with "it doesn't mean what you think it means" that is sign for rethinking the catch phrase...

Well, I think that's what makes it so perfect -- because every conversation must address the fact that it's a very complex issue.
