I'm a fan of nightcrawler and cyclops myself (though both have been hurt by bad writing at times)

YEah, the movies had him in two modes

Cyclops was either ready to cry over jean, or just emotionally constipated like you said

They left out like his sheer love of flight... that touch of humor like when he'd use his power to win pool games.... how he kind of smirked when Wolverine got taken down a peg

and when in the comics finally pushed too far, his temper and power were like 'holy shit.. ', add to that the second best tactician in Marvel since Cap

they didn't allow him any humor

I don't blame James Marsden though. He worked with what they gave him

and as an actor, working without eyes is hard

He actually got more hero time as 'Lois' boyfriend' in a superman movie than he did as Cyclops in two of the Xmen movies

And he was hilarious as a Prince in Enchanted (I think it was) So I know he can act if they let him 🙂
