Surgery might help fix that, and back braces...

Would she be offended by someone checking on her house daily? they have services for that. It might hurt her independence but still be a tolerable intrusion

A lot depends, I'm told, on the willinngess to do the Rehab. If she can work through that, stick to it, she'll probably get most of her mobility back
