EVERY. ONE. at the 🐭 goes to something called "Traditions." It's a short class that teaches a bit of heritage and culture and what to expect, as well as what is expected.

Okay.

There's an opportunity to introduce yourself to those at your table, and then for a few people to introduce themselves to the room.

So a woman ACROSS the room from me volunteers to speak.

(This is after I've told my table where I'm coming from.)

She says "Hi, my name is Jen. I'm coming to Disney after 24 years in the Air Force. I moved to Florida with my husband and two sons.... and I'm really looking forward to this adventure!"

At this point, I have my head on the table and my hand in the air, volunteering.

A guy goes next, and then they pick me.

I stand up and say "Hi, my name is Jen. I'm coming to Disney after 24 years in the Air Force. I moved to Florida with my husband and two sons.... and I'm really looking forward to this adventure!"

And I leaned over to be visible and WAVE at the other Jen.

Needless to say, we had lunch together.

Cool! That's amazingly uncanny.

Irony? She is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from me.

Ha! Yeah?

She's an analyst, like with numbers and shit. Her interview consisted of a phone call where they asked her to solve math problems, and then an ALL DAY in-person interview where DIFFERENT PEOPLE asked her math problems.

This is my definition of HELL.

At lunch that day of Traditions, we got to talking about where we were settling down and how WEIRD it was to settle down! I told her we'd just closed on a house. She said she was having one built. "Where?" I asked.

Yeah, the math would have made me crazy, too.

Don't tell me...your neighborhood?

..... the answer was, in my town.

YEP.

Oh, good grief.

The streets here are alphabetized. She lives on an "S". I live on a "T".

I can't make this shit up.....

SO.... we had lunch today and caught up.

Are your boys about the same ages?

Her youngest is graduating HS this week (or soon).

So no, but.

She was a Major, I was a Master Sergeant. The ranks are analogous; each does about the same thing, but in different Corps.

Ah.
