It turns out Trolls have what they call an oath of adoption- it is what it says it is, but stronger. No matter the age, the adopted offspring seems to 'imprint' on the parent, often emulating their very character traits. Hardly one sided, the parent taking the other endures vexations that would normally have him or her reaching for a battle axe. Perhaps this is why trolls remain such a cohesive kith, at least up to the lodge level. The old mother's curse is 'I Hope you have a child just like you' one wonders if a similar fate befell the trolls? Though I have noted some glaring exceptions that would defy that hypothesis (From the Works of Professor Wayburton's paper Trolls in the Mists: A Study in Blue Dreams)
