No need. I just think you have every right to point out that there's a legitimate limit to the amount of discomfort you should be asked to tolerate, and your mileage may vary from your brother's and still be valid and worthy of respect.

It was meant to honor deceased mothers, but when I mention that to living ones they give a me the glare

But it does seem to have creeped in the weirdest way. Apparently to some it means you must congratulate every mother you know.. i mean, a total stranger talks about her kids on mother's day near you and you're supposed to congratulate her for it. Seems a bit odd.
