Glad you enjoyed, Shady! As much as Mr. D is pretty damn clued in to his sensitive side, I think there's a strong gender division on how people react to the movie. It says a lot more to women than it does to men, I think.

The Captain Marvel message is the Buffy the Vampire Slayer message (from the final episode): the hero is the one who finds the courage to stand up, again and again and again.

Oh? What would you say is the Wonder Woman message?

Hmm...I'd have to watch it again. I didn't like that movie as much, but I think that has a lot to do with the DC cinematic style which I find to be kind of like cake frosting with too much sugar. Oversweet and gritty in unpleasant proportions.

I will admit, the 3rd act and 'boss battle' had some flaws. But the Noman's land scene overcomes it for me a great deal

I think in Capt M, the fact that she'd been gaslit by her mentor for so long really speaks to a lot of women, but might be overlooked by men.

I know and they almost cut it out... Jenkins had to fight the studio execs for that. Jenkins fought for that one because in her mind, taht's when Diana chose to BECOME Wonder Woman, when folks said it can't be done, and Diana decides it can because it was right.

Oh I won't LIE... when Carol's mentor was all 'Okay, now fight me like this' at the end, I was muttering 'oh just SHOOT him" ... and I was VERY pleased she did. I did quite enjoy that part! "I have nothing to prove to you" . I will admit that I liked a lot

I guess if I were grading them I'd put Wonder Woman up at an 8.5 and Captain Marvel at a 7. But then, it could also be character bias as I prefer Diana to Carol in the comics

Nah.. Rambeau, the girl Monica? Was actually a bearer of the title Captain Marvel herself in the comics before Carol was.

But it was nice they put her in in one form or another as a nod to the comics, and the kid had some good lines and delivery!

Terence talked me through the many iterations of Captain Marvel and how they're all at least obliquely referenced in the movie. Interesting stuff!
