Post-raid, Emmit sensed there was something "key" left behind that would be useful. After some back and forth, Z & Miriam go to retrieve it - things are rocky, they don't really know how to interact with each other. Key is a Balor sidhe. Balor Sidhe has dirt on various baddies, but also was one of the guards during Miriam's imprisonment. Miriam was enslaved, tortured, raped, and pretty brutally traumatized for 16 years at Balor hands. To try to escape lethal punishment, Balor dropped the bomb that Miriam had another child, was impregnated by an unknown rapist, and had the baby taken from her. That she had forgotten the second baby.

Second baby is basically an emotional atomic bomb.

I think Zara is scared of losing Miriam again.

She does not have a very secure attachment to her.

And part of it is empathy, because she can see Miriam's anguish, but can't help.

And is afraid of making it worse.
