So I have a story.

Not last night, but the night before....

The senior leader at that location walked through the door some point between 0530 and 0600. That is EARLY for a leader who's hours aren't even posted. I was surprised, because he wasn't supposed to be there, but pleased to see him. He served in the USMC, I was almost in the military, we have a connection.

"Almost"?

(USAF is almost military in the eyes of the USMC.....)

I greeted him, we exchanged pleasantries and then he went straight to the point "Do we have any visitors today?"

Ok, so... a Senior asking about visitors before 0600? These MUST be Distinguished Visitors.... IMPORTANT PEOPLE.

"No... are we expecting Visitors?"

"Yep."

Oh dear.

What happened next was not planned. It was just me, being me.

I looked at him and said....

"Do you need me to clean anything?"

Out of body experience; I heard myself ask... and started to laugh.

He did too.

He said "I don't know if that's you being in the military, or you being a mom...."

"Both, I think!" I responded.

Ha!

I left before any DVs arrived, and I had already cleaned, but.... it made me laugh at myself in a good way.

Well, any DV who's visited a military base thinks they ALL smell like paint. We DO paint the rocks before DVs visit, and other places. But... Rocks???

My first summer of teaching (summer school), I enjoyed far too many chocolate shakes from the McD's on the way home. So Good.
