D&Co, to the Blackadder commentary I will add that while Season one was still finding their voices and footing, and the shows get better each season with 4 being the best.... in order to appreciate the flow and story arcs, watching 1 to 4 is best.

There's some semi-sub-text involving how the Blackadder of each season slips lower and lower on the social rungs despite each season's efforts, and the emotional potency of Season 4's final ep isn't the same if you don't know the final eps of 1-3.

Well, I think I done pooped my pants, that new Godzilla trailer is exciting.

It really did look good didn't it? Some classic monsters hinted at

I’ve always been a huge Godzilla fan, even owned bootleg dvds of the 90’s films before they finally imported them here in 2015. The director answered questions at Comic-Con and he said there are even more monsters in the film that aren’t in the trailer and that they’re also Toho classics so now I’m wracking my brain since they showed the big four already. Anguirus and Mechagodzilla immediately spring to mind...but surely they’d save mecha g for when the King Kong crossover happens

I could go on forever. I guess it’s kinda like how some people are with Wrestling. Yes it’s a little goofy and the stories are contrived but that’s not why we watch, it’s the Spectacle of it all! If I could pay to watch two dudes in rubber suits throw each other into cardboard cityscapes in my backyard I’d totally pay that dime. Big budget blockbuster works too ;)

Hey, even I know that Godzilla has some major symbolism behind it, not just the atomic bomb, but nature's fury in response to man's arrogance, the yoking of great forces knowing the yoke will break but hoping it breaks on your side...etc. Sometimes pop culture has depth

Oh yeah. Funny enough later franchises tried to counter that message. Ultraman (giant dude in tights who fights big monsters) for instance is basically one big “Nah bruh, Science can be used for good too. In fact it can fight the very monsters you create”. The “Millenium Series” that they started with a reboot in 2000 let different directors do their own interpretations and ignore previous canon and led to some interesting ideas. Two of the movies tackled the concept in completely different technocratic ways. In one the world goes “oh its nuclear energy’s fault? Well fine we’ll just launch a massive free energy project” and they do and it’s a success but then Godzilla still shows up due to scientific meddling. In another film the world goes “oh it was nuclear energy? Well let’s double down and work on a robot suit program that will waste even more resources.”

That's the sign of a great pop culture myth, the ability to branch out or go back to roots
