The fundamental premise!

And Samantha did make some mistakes now and then, but that was just endearing... the way she would say "Wellll" with that guilty adorable look. I sometimes try to steal that for characters but I'll never do it as well

Instead of embracing Samantha for who she was, and going dancing atop the clouds, he whines and shamed and pressured her into a little box of suburban acceptibility

oh, I Dream of Jeannie was the opposite when it came to competentce. Sam was amazing, competent, and had Darren's back. Jeannie? A magical klutz stepping over herself
