Sounds like my house. The previous owners papered over paint, and then painted over paper, and then another round of each, and it's all hideous. We've rescued some rooms but...well...time and money and lack of personal talent in this area.

And yes, some of the trees got shrunk to bush size and replanted. The Oak is indignant about it, and the Elm hopes everyone is polite enough not to bring this up in civilized company
