That's fair. I've run into a series or two wheree they either went somewhere, I did not like, or made a protagonist SO unsympathetic I was like "bye"

I think my favorite 80s fantasy was the Belgariad, which was very much a series of sterotypes, tropes and 'world of hats' but that was part of the point so 😉 fun
