one for combat - knights, one for arts/sciences - laurels, and one for service - pelicans

People who just participate don't get to be peers. Peerage requires a LOT of dedication and involvement...and yeah, it gets pretty political.

I got to see three elevations this past weekend, two to pelican and one to laurel. I really envy the pomp and circumstance of the ceremonies, and all the cool do-dads they receive...but I don't envy the work they've done to earn them.
