Gym teachers have literally hundred of students, and often less prep time. They have pedagogical demands, and put plenty of thought into how to best structure their classes to meet the needs of their students

They have the same continuing education requirements as other teachers, and are usually soundly qualified to teach health and nutrition

Physical skills ARE skills, and need to be taught in a particular order

Which may be the case for truly experienced gym teachers. I'm talking about people who have phoned in two years of teaching gym JUST to get the credit to complete their administrative certification.

My mother taught phys ed for thirty years

She was a wonderful and passionate teacher and she worked very hard.

My mother-in-law also taught gym for a long time. There are absolutely dedicated gym teachers. Those aren't the ones I'm talking about.

You're talking about the ones who do the bare minimum in PE for the qualifications so they can skip to Admining while Real Gym teachers end up looking bad because of their sloppy ladder climbing. Makes sense

Of course. There are bad teachers in all subjects. And good ones.

Again...I'm talking about people who only teach phys ed as a stepping stone to get the bigger bucks in administration, and abandon teaching as soon as possible.

Heck, I've had good teachers in subjects I hated, and bad teachers in subjects I normally loved so no argument from the non teacher in the chatroom.

I don't consider these people to have any "teaching" experience...they're opportunists.

And unfortunately, from this outsiders view in Academia, it's often opportunists who climb the farthest

yeah. I have to say, I don't know what happened in that hallway with the teacher who got arrested , but her complaint to the raise for the administrator while teachers had gone 7 years without a single raise was a legit gripe

In my districts, they'll eliminate teaching positions but add three more redundant administrative spots.

That was absolutely a legit gripe. And a common one.

And should not have been considered a disturbance or anything. how is discussing the waste of budget or the injustice of it, NOT appropriate when such things are announced?

And yeah, drives me nuts when they strip an entire program for a school and yet somehow have room for those three new administrative slots you mention.

There are rules about when public comment can happen. If she was speaking out not during the public comment time, they were within their rights because she was causing a disturbance....but they shouldn't have done that.

I guess I'm not suited for the patience those meets would require. Sheepish

We had a vice principal in the high school I went to. God, she was an ego maniac and very small hearted

To give you an idea of the amount of administration we've got in the building, we've got a principal, four assistant principals, and a discipline dean. Fewer than 1000 students in the school.

FOUR assistant Principals?
