From what I can tell you have to be a Fashion Designer, Tailor/Seamstress, and Historian, and again, that's me observing it.

Good point. I suppose you need to know about the classic stock characters then put them in proper context and add even more dimension from there

That wasn't meant as an insult just trying to grasp and relate. when I create a character in fiction they start as rather blank and sometimes even a trope and I fill them in layer by layer, or I try to.
