I heard a story about a woman who found out her son had been punished for reading in class above his grade level when he had already finished what he was supposed to read. Not only is that monumentally stupid to list as a crime, she almost had the principal (Who had set some whacky policy afraid kids would read the WRONG things) for lunch. Amazing how the school board reacts to being told a principal discourages reading in boys

My 3rd grader reads on a 6th grade level, Thing1 would happily read all day in school if allowed....

Thing1 went on his first no-family Boy Scout camping trip a couple weeks ago.

Apparently, they set up camp, had dinner, did the first-night things... and Thing1 and another Scout set themselves up near a lantern with the books they brought.

ALL the other boys clustered around the Scoutmasters, twitching slightly, asking if they could get to their phones/electronics to.... let mom know... .to check.... to ... just a moment... *group twitching* ... just for a second.... mom said.... dad wants..... text.... call.... TWITCH*
