We only had what they've called a "microburst" touch down a couple weeks ago... which has never happened here before. It landed in a park in the middle of town, completely decimated it, and was done, but it utterly destroyed everything there. No one got hurt, luckily, but that's a park a lot of kids play in, and there's a dog run. It's usually full of people. Just to say... seeing the spot rendered to splinters and chaos has made me a little edgy about actual big storms.

Here's the thing.... Looking around our neighborhood, people are still here, schools are still open, no one's put up boards....

I'm glad you are? Maybe it's being covered differently in the news from here to there, but they're making it sound pretty hecking awful...

It IS, it will be, we're taking precautions but the folks who have been here a while aren't freaking yet.

I am more comfortable in fantasy and soft sci Fi (Hard Sci Fi they expect you to KNOW things.. 😉 )

I have read a lot of both hard and soft SF. It IS a big difference

I'm told romance is where the demand is, but not as confident at that.

What are you working on?

Well, working on what to do with a novel I finished. A slightly comedic Superhero novel. Now, Superheroes sell in movies, but in novels? ehhhh

I am wondering if I MUST crank out two more books in case folks insist on a trilogy.

i'm not an expert in the industry but it does seem to be some pressure that if they like one, they want 3, if they don't like one, you've made 3 for nada. So grumble. Others could tell you more straight. But the very idea of it has me going 'urgh'

I may wimp out and just put up on Amazon as an Ebook. They take more of a bite

But it is said to be less work.

I have a friend who has a couple published that way, through Amazon, and has gotten $ from it as well as comissions to write free-lance.

But. She writes porn. 😜

I'm not gonna judge. I won't lie, sometimes I've considered it. But I'm not sure I want folks knowing what I have in my head, and pen names aren't always as protective as one thinks

Same and same. My 'social media presence' already has been pretty permanently labelled and I can only imagine how much harder it would make, say, finding work if that came out as well.

But. writing for money has a lot of appeal.

(RPing for money would be nice, but hey.)
