I watched a friend's 4 year old for a couple hours the other night.

I have NO IDEA how you guys do it.

All he wanted to do was run up and down the hallways, screaming

and then he wanted to go up and down the stairs. It was such a novelty to him! Up and down- all 6 flights

and then we went to the playground and it was MORE RUNNING and MORE SCREAMING

Well, 4 years old is still toddler-range. They have a LOT of energy, but the trick is to know you do NOT. LET THEM run and scream. It's what they do. You just sit and make sure they don't hurt themselves too badly. A little injury is fine, teaches cause and effect.

Back! And exactly, Shady. Mine is 5.5, and he's on FIRE all the time. But also diabetic. So, let him run, but also give him juice so he doesn't die.

My mom was going to take him OUT today, but there's a bike tour of the island that has basically blocked off my area from everywhere, so they're now off to the park

On the way up the stairs after going out he grabbed the keys from my husband and insisted on racing us up. He beat us by a bit but dropped the keys on the way. I retrieved them when I saw the boy looking down the middle of the stair well contemplatively and gave them back to husband. "Don't give these to Jack", I said. "I think he wants to drop them down."
