I used to waterbear. Got a number of battlefield proposals that way.

My one friend did the best impression of conversing with a dazed fighter.

"WAH-TER? Do you need WAH-TER? Why don't you SIT? Yes, SIT."

I never did SCA, but did see something similar where one got really hit HARD in the head spun and crashed. A bearded guy rushed to him, and said "How many fingers am I holding up?" and and held up four. The downed guy without missing a beat looked at the bushy faced guy and said "Four, lovliest of maidens"

Meanwhile, I am on the never-ending keyhole neckline of dooooooooooooom

Yeah, same basic experience. Waterbearers go from saying "Water? Gatorade?" to "My lord, you need to drink now. No, now."

Oh yeah.
