House Scathach has a mention of how they dont' get along with Gwydions, how that house and they are constantly at loggerheads and disagree on so much. "We no longer recognize their right to rule" but in that same paragraph they admit individual friendships can and do arise.

And the books themselves are full of NPCs who break those molds... David and Fararlyth (Sp?) fell in love

I guess it's different when it's from a general philosophical outlook, which can differ...or, like in the case of Varich and sluagh, it is something they all must follow because of the House Founder. It's systematic and codified, not informal and philosophical. A lot of things, though, are informal simply because Houses tend to look at things a certain way.

I kind of like the Daireann talk on sluaghs. The warriors are like 'uhmm...eww?' and the herbalists are like "Oh we love sluagh. Very competent when it comes to poi...herbs."
