I think if I ever were going to get hooked on something it would probably be a narcotic. (The real term, not the word people use as catch-all...something that's a downer. Opiates, benzodiazepines...)

But I am on so many stimulants that my resting heart rate is over 100 beats per minute, and I have a hair-trigger temper because of it. I've ground my teeth down until the dentist told me to stop.

I can't think how people find this fun.

Maybe Stimulants effect you more than other people?

Don't know. They've stopped working therapeutically, I've gotten a tolerance, but the physical effects are still there. Like on constant adrenaline.

So I can totally understand wanting something to bring you down.

They want to add guafacine, but I am imagining my liver being a workhorse with more and more packs being added to its back. LOL

NO idea. I've read as much as I can about it, and it might. But after having Ritalin and then Adderall stop working, and then Bupropion...I am wary of interactions,. It says no drinking, while on it, and I do love my occasional whiskey and coke. 🙂

So. I have Bupropion to thank for the sudden tooth-grinding, jaw-clenching? Niiiice to know.

I am on things where I should not drink. Though the doctor did admit that every now and again is more than likely fine. Though I only do so once or twice a month.

OH yeah. I thought I mentioned that before? It's an atypical antidepressant prescribed off-label for ADHD, and has a stimulant effect.

Also, a nicotine antagonist, so you can smoke occasionally and not get hooked....one bonus.

Agreed, 13-p. But when guafacine has 'Risk of Death' as a side effect to drinking...

It lowers blood pressure, not unlike an ACE inhibitor, so it can drop too low.

You might ask them about decreasing the dosage, Simon-p, or -- there is the long-acting kind, XR and XL. Those have fewer highs and lows.
