The Paler brat is unphased.

"HOw did you bypass the power of this chamber? I couldn't, and I'm a daughter of the..." Rathbone's good eye widens "What did Paler manage to MAKE of you?"

August does, indeed, approach the Baroness and offer to 'escort' her to her seat. "Baroness, please take your seat. Now." firmly.

She sees she has cowed NO one, and seething, does as August directs.

Zara sits patiently, like that cat who has stolen all of the cream.

"Thank you." politely "Miss Softplum, I appreciate your assistance. Can you tell if there is an influence on the Baroness as there was ...." a slight pause there ".... on Goodfae Darespark?"

"I can tell you, and the o nly spell on Rathbone is the dictum not to cast" Softplum says

August nods somberly "Then you are willing to testify that, whatever her motivations and reasons for her actions, she has no influence on her to force her to those actions?"

"Oh, I am SURE Rathbone has all the power over Darespark from lingering cantrip effects. "

He nods respectfully. "But on and about Baroness Rathbone herself? Are you willing to testify that, whatever her motivations and reasons for her actions, Baroness Rathbone has no influence on her to force her to those actions?"

"Yes, as it is the truth "

August nods soberly. "Thank you for your expertise. And, thank you." That last to Zara, whom he does not name.

A small smile for August.

And a glimmer of mischief in her eye for the Trillium guards.

The thanes are looking baffled

Softplum is equally sober, "You're most welcome. It would seem a near injustice was in the making"

"Please," Rathbone sniffs "I gave her my attention, not like she was cheated"

"August is rather devoted to his ideals. I fear he is more paladin than aught else. And when a paladin finds an injustice?" She shrugs.

"You give me too much credit." He says softly.

"Thank you for your time, Baroness. The Thanes will see you back to your accommodations." to Softplum "I believe next on our list is Lord Nathair?"

"So he is" The Thanes 'escort' firmly

Rathbone turns "Nathair didn't escape?" A frown on her face, then "Well, so be it"

"He did not escape; in fact, he stands accused of one of our most serious and abhorrent crimes, for which he seeks the Duke's mercy, I'm sure. I have offered to listen to what he will say." August snaps his notepad shut.

And they seek out Nathair

They find him in a dungeon, no luxury set up this. The man used cold iron. There is a weaver ward here, Zara can feel it, ;preventing most wayfare out. Two thanes stand watch. They are well outfitted

"Of course," She nods and goes to do so. She doesn't seem offended, rather respecting AUgust, as a laywer, may have need for private consults

Zara lifts her eyebrows, watching her friend.

"Thank you." he offers Zara his arm and if she allows, they step away to speak.
