She kicks at it! They aren't steel-toed, but at least they are hiking boots.

THAT makes an impact, troll might being all it is ... and there's a mace whack on it's flank.

The creature bites at Jessica even as it gets smashed, but Jessica avoids it, good thing too, for she notices now the colorful creature has an odd... slimey coating all about it's flesh

"Probably venoumous!" she calls a warning to Gerd.

Gerd's eyes widen, but she keeps her resolve

The frog looks ready to bite again, but then the mama bird flies down and flutters in it's face, throwing it off, leaving it vulnerable even as she risks herself

"Try not to touch it!"

She takes the opportunity to stomp down on it.

Jessica has some 'frog juice' on her, but seems to have avoided the toxin

"Gerd, you ok?"

"Yeah, got a bit on my hand but I'm not feeling nauseated or anything..."

The bird is eating the frog's remains

"Looks like the bird is immune to it " Gerd blinks

"Here. Don't touch anything...." Jess gets a washcloth out of her pack; Gerd has one too. "Wipe clean and then come here." She sets her hydration pack up to wash Gerd's hands off.

Gerd does so

Together they get Gerd cleaned up. Then Jess turns to the next to assess.

Gerd insists Jessica do the same for herself

Once Gerd's hands are clean, she can get her washcloth out for Jess to use, and together they get cleaned up. THEN Jess assesses the nest.

Clearly, there were more eggs than the four there are now. But the mother bird seems to be joyous at the remainder and makes a lovely song

Jess chuckles. "There we go. " She shoulders up her pack again, tucking the dirty clothes into an outside pocket.

The bird makes a berwoop sound, and then, plucks two loose feathers from the nest, a bit of glamour going into each, and it offers them. One to Jessica, one to Gerd

"Thank you." Jess says gravely, accepting with both hands. "We are honored."

Gerd inclines her head "May your young take flight with strength and cunning"

The bird puffs up with pride at that

Another nod, and Jess leads the way back to the trail.

And the two resume the trail. Gerd strokes the feather she was given with admiration, but she also looks at Jessica "This sort of thing happen to you a lot?"

Jess has tucked the feather into her pack. "Mmm... moderately. Not every outing, you know, but... it happens. Stupid of me not to have brought my maul."

"Not stupid, you just need to bring a chimerical knife next time. I had one in my boot. I should have offered it to you. Instead I used my mace"

"I apprecate the offer, Gerd. I should have been prepared."

"You were prepared. You fought wisely and well and used the one part of your body less likely to be subject to Toxin. We're trolls. Might is ours, even weaponless. Don't be so hard on yourself"

She nods.... she knows what she knows.

A brow "Well, I tried. That said, a boot knife, purely chimerical is handy. I know a good smith if you're interested? Darkgate? Not sure if you've heard of it" Her voice has been low though they are distant from the other hikers

"Mmm... I think so. At Thanksgiving? It's... in New York, right?"

"Yeah, Rome New York" She nods "It's like a big fortress against the Dark hence the name but they do have good weaponsmiths. Their chief is a Dougal s well s a troll"

She nods. "I'll look into it. We might have someone at Skyhook who could make one, too."

"Aren't you worried the boot knife will explode?"

"Not yet."

"There's always a conversation about what you want an item to do, and specificallly not do, as part of the fee negotiation. I figure that's the time to bring up the knife exploding, or launching, or... anything."
