WOOHOO!!! SECOND post in Fenix!

OOC: Yeah, but yours had words

BIC: For Jessica, the mortal news is often more depressing than the fae. Tijuana is a vibrant city with kind people, it is also a den of crime and violence that has the US Military warning it's armed and war trained personnel not to go to it for a vacation. When news that two teenagers were gunned down for refusing to sell drugs reaches the hold, well, no one who had lived in the city for long is surprised. It shouldn't be a changeling matter. Unless, of course, you're related. Like Rosa is

The boggan got the news while making a meal. When she heard, well, she broke down crying and the meal was burned.

When word reaches Jessica (even as dinner doesn't), she makes her way to Rosa's location; a bit awkwardly, but out of caring for the individuals of her Freehold and Fief.

There's sobbing, and others are consoling her, but they do look hopefully at their leader

"Rosa?"

"Oh.. oh I am so sorry, your food, I'll.. " Wiping at her eyes

"No, Rosa, forget that. That's not why I'm here. You got some bad news?"

"My nephew, Pepe, he was a good boy. A clean boy. He...he told them no, and the drugs..." It's not that her English is bad, far from it, but she is shaken

Jessica's Spanish, thanks to an immersive environment and conscious study on her part, has improved. "En Espanole, se bueno."

And in that language, she continues "Drug dealers got him." She confirms.

She nods, and continues, "Si. He would not deal. you would think two teenagers saying no, would be nothing. But no one says no to them I guess. They killed him for pride and power."

"Can you tell me what gang it was?'

"the Guadañas the Scythes"

She nods. "Do they have Fae connections?"

"No, just humans doing horrible things to others of their own" She wipes at her face, "I am so sorry. Here I am blubbering like a baby"

"Do you want to go be with your family? We can manage here, and they might need you?"

"I should see my sister, " a nod

"Go on then. Take as long as you need, as long as you like."

The others nod and assure her she's got this. Such is the boggan work ethic that leaving a job without good reason is, well, it's just against their grain. But family? Family is family. As Jessica is learning, family has a long reach. She actually got a call the other night with Dagmar

Jessica walks Rosa to her home, or as close as she wishes, having let others at the Freehold know that she herself would be continuing to her apartment. Which she does. By way of the tattoo salon.

The tattoo salon is rarely busy with mroe than one or two customers, maybe once in a blue moon a group of friends of four or so. But now, it is actually crowded. Angry young men gathered around Duff, speaking in rapid spanish.

The damn bell over the door. Jess pauses just a fraction as she enters, then looks around and takes a seat, rubbing her neck tattoo as if to explain her presence.

That seems to work, and, to be honest, there's just a bit more open sexism among Mexicans, well, certain sub cultures, so most wave her off as not really being of consequence. This lets her listen in a bit, as she gets the tempo down "they want in that school. You said you'd keep them out. Now no one is going to want to risk death? We agreed not to deal there, but the Scythes? They break the deal. Why shouldn't we?"

Duff looks them over, "because you haven't seen yet what's going to happen. Wait. Watch. See."

"Okay, Duff, but no way are we keeping our hands off if they don't and make it work" They turn and start to filter out.

SOme of these kids are as young as Siv

Jess flips through a magazine, not seeing it.

Once they're gone, he says "You got all that?" Duff says

"A lot of it. They got one of Rosa's nephews." She stands. "Busy day?"

"The problem with being a bad ass with connections? Folks think you either had a hand in something, or wonder why you didn't." He says and frowns, "one of them was Rosa's nephew? Shit. That...explains why you are here."

She nods. "Any Fae connections to this thing?"

"Not that I know of and I looked into it. Now I haven't ruled out prodigals. you remember the children of Lilith you helped destroy?"

She nods.

"Power vacuums excist even among vampires"

Jessica looks at the floor for a moment, thinking, then back to Duff. "You think it was vampires?"

"No. It was humans acting on human greed and power, but they might have a vampire patron." He says "I'm not sure. It doesn't involve Fae though."

She nods. Rubs the floor with her boot. "I wish.... I wish there was something.... ok, something -more- I could do."

'I won't help if I say the kid wasn't kithain, barely kinian if at all. Wasn't ever enchanted. That wouldn't help, would it?"

She sighs. "Not really. I mean. By the Escheat, I don't have to act but.... Rosa was crying."

A nod, "It's different when someone is tied to it that you know.. It shouldn't be, but it is how we're wired. i'm looking into it. The Scythes just spat in my face. I don't like that. I can't afford it. "

She nods. "I know." After a beat. "If.... If you'll let me, I'd like to be part of what happens." She rests the maul-head on the shop floor, one hand on the grip.

He looks at her, "I don't think that's wise. Jessica, the way I do things gets ugly."
