Mr. and Mrs. Shipp do not know their beloved daughter was gone. The ruse with a childling disguised as their daughter went smoothly so when Nema returns to retake her place, she has little difficulty at first. Day by day, she gets a chance to know them. They're tired, and work hard. They've no time, but somehow make some. As Dawn, Nema must at first play a part, and it is a hard one to play, but she feels herself soften as she watches these people with so much love and she marvels. They're fascinating, not bugs in a jar, though there is that factor, but in their capacity to strive together like legends of old in a cold and banal world. Their warmth helps her hold on as she deals with the Autumn world. more and more she gives her signals by trying to interact just a bit more, more eye contact, a light touch here of her own accord. It's delicate work, but when Mrs. Shipp breaks down crying with joy when her daughter lets a smile slip, well, Nema's little heart breaks in return, and for a mere daughter of eve. Marvelous. Things are on the right track.
