August gets a soft tap at his office door the next day

And his squire, velvet, peeks in

August looks up. "Ah, Squire. Come in, please."

She comes in "my lord I.. wanted to apologize for not being more attentive to my duties of late"

"You've been there when I needed you, Squire. For which I'm grateful. I am not aware of any dereliction."

"too kind. i .. made an error of a social nature, we sluagh are not always so skilled there. And i was wrong"

"I'm not aware of any such error but as you say."

"it was not with you, baron , but i was so aghast and distraught it quite threw me off proper squire behavior or so I worried"

"I cannot say I was saw any flaw in your service." with a gentle smile. "If there was such an issue, it was cunningly hidden."

A weak smile" Well, it is resolved now so .." A shrug "Have you any task for me , my lord?" She lowers with fingers spread over heart

"Oh, ah... yes... yes... ah... Could you review these notes? And add, whatever you think needful, in the margins?"

She takes them and looks them over "Of course, my lord." And instantly begins reviewing... well whatever it's about

A Saining incident a year and a half ago.

"oh yes, " she reads it "I remember this, though I am embarrassed to say I did not eavesdrop on some of the stuff that is ... off the record. Miss Zara would likely be upset with me"

She goes back to looking it over

August is obviously deep into his law reading again; sometimes he doesn't hear things.

She sits down and reads it for a half hour going over the details, then looks up "I believe I'm done"

She has written a few things in the margins but not much

"Thank you." He takes the notes and sets them aside. "Please take the evening to yourself."

"As you wish, my lord" She rises "I hear we'll have a baseball team?"

"I think I have heard something of that, yes."

"oh dear" She sighs "Well, Miss Zara shall be engrossed. "

"I suppose we will see." he says gently.

"I am not very 'sporty' myself, but societal pressures will win out"

"Squire, I do not wish you to participate if it would discommode you."

"I needs should support my amour. We are on the ..mend, and he would enjoy it. A small sacrifice"

"As you say."

"And, good luck on your position as short stop, my lord. "

With a sigh. "Thank you, squire."

she notes the sigh "maybe you'll get ill and be unable to participate? There is always hope"

"I'm sure I will do my best."

"you always do, Baron." A nod of approval "Still, i wish you a timely plague"

"Ah. Thank you." he stands.

And his squire withdraws

And he returns to his studies.
