The Margrave looks at August, "Trouble?"

"What?"

The Sidhe Lord looks at the knight, "You seem driven yet uncertain, you have a destination, but you do not trust the road?"

"Others control the road."

"It is difficult yes," He nods "But they do not know how powerful you are."

"But I'm not powerful."

"They don't know that" A glass of wine, "They only know you have a signature from the House Founder himself. "

A long pause. "You mean.... miss lead them?"

"They are paranoid political animals... hint at something, and they'll lead themselves. They do not know do they? Whatever you learned in the great library. "

Troubled, August looks away. "That seems.... wrong."

"Perhaps. But they are guilty you know? Or more accurately, the Houses they represented. They were blind. We warned them. "

"Sins of the Father......"

"A sin they have a chance to rectify"

"I don't think I'll get a lot of tractions presenting them with sins....."

A smile "THey didn't like it back in the day either." An admission there "Still, then if you refuse to play at least a few of the games, then I suppose there is comfort in losing with high moral ground. Perhaps if it must be reborn under pretense is it not worth of rebirth" A sigh

"I'm willing to make deals, to owe favors, to be in debt.... but.... cheating? And.... Samhain approaches."

"Ah yes. It does. " A frown "I never enjoyed Samhain"

"Nor have I."

"I do not like losing. But if I must let it be for the right reasons."

"Then, to quote a certain fictional character of your time, if we are to be damned, let us be damned for who we are. I was... in a rank sense. And yet here you are, doing well. Perhaps good deeds will be rewarded"

"Are they?" Grasping. "Are good deeds rewarded?"

"More than you know."

"less than you dreamed."

"Not.... tactically helpful."

"In hindsight it might be."

A sigh. "I don't.... understand."

"Maybe I don't have to."

"It's hard to explain to you. Not because you are foolish, but because I am not... as you are"

"I know. I wish I could be what I was."

a long look, "You are more human than I. there's power in that. "
