"Ah, well, since you invited it," Cadman grins.
There are good natured groans
"High was the Moon, winking like Odin's eye that night, and where the silver fell across from its gaze, we knew the way to the prize, for the omens had been good, and our seers read well. Great are the seers of the blood of Brann.
And High were the sails across the silvered sea, and fast we flew through Aegir's waves, and when we approached the isle of the enemy! The Dark Kin had long nestled on this island of bones, hunched like a vulture diseased.... carefully chosen are the raids of the Blood of Brann"
"And into the island we traveled, down came the sails when we saw the isle., so that would not see us in return. Boot hit shore, and with the first step we moved as one, striding onto the foe's land."
The tale goes on in a stanza. Cadman's voice is deep, and he times it well, as the brief saga unfolds, and he describes the tension, the building suspense until the raid breaks out in full! And then he claps and continues
"And the cries of the enemy guards went out! And our skalds responded with horns to lips! And the horns of Brann answered the cries of the Dark! And our voice was a roar to their simpering! And steel flashed in the wink of Odin's Eye and broke the hide of the foe as we moved and claimed the treasures they had plucked from the weak and helpless! Great is the justice of the blood of brann!"
And he talks on, by the time he is done, he speaks of his lugging the cauldron with more arrows in him than most should live through
"The slaves had been freed! The dross had been plucked! And yet the Cauldron ? Oh the Cauldron! Had they been honorable foes imight have left it, but I cried to the Norns that I would not let it be so! And they suffered my boast! And no cords were cut! A thousand rivers flowed from under the cauldron on my back, as the arrows burrowed deeper under it's weight! So I ran! Ran for the ship! Ran for the crew! but I would not run without the prize! With a heave, I threw myself upon the ship! With gasp, I felt the hands of my brothers seize me! And I realized that the cauldron had landed before I did... and the last thing the foes on the shore heard was the echo of my laughter fringing from the Cauldron! And this is the boast, my boast, a boast of Cadman of the Blood of Brann!"
