The trod from Rivervale gives a friendly flash, and Brekke steps off of the footbridge. She carries a covered basket in one arm.

The sun is bright, but damn, it's cold. Below 20 degrees

"Chieftain?" A figure looks up. A male wilder she thinks is called Stein

That is simply a little cool, for her. Besides, she has her winter cloak on. She nods to the youth who addresses her. "Hello. I hope this is not a bad time. I am here to speak with Chieftain Clem."

"This way, " He says, then asks "Some are saying SIdhe nobles hired an assassin on Great Uncle Emmit.. that true?"

A sigh. "Investigations are ongoing. An attack happened that looked like an assassination attempt. It may have been staged. Beyond that, I have no further details I can share."

"Well" Stein's jaw sets "Hope he doesn't risk his head at annother Sidhe's hold anytime soon" They move their way towards the cowpen

Brekke frowns, but decides not to say anything. Defending Hemlock's hold right now would not be helpful...and she's rather frustrated about it to begin with.

Clem is milking a cow, and looks up "Chief, be just a sec before I join you. Lacey here is just about emptied out"

"Of course," she says to Clem, and then she offers the basket she carries to Stein. "Our Hearth sends this. Please bring it to Hearth Agnes."

"Yes, Chieftain" He says, his mood still a bit sour, but he goes.

Clem watches him go as her hands move, "Bit worried about Stein. Most of our strongest anti nobles are our oldest. But since the attempt on our Mountain, Stein's been as prickly as a porcupine in a windstorm"

"Mm. He made a comment to me about hoping the Mountain does not risk himself by going to another noble hold. I think it was intended to strike me as much as strike Count Hemlock."

A frown at that, "Uncalled for if so, and my apologgies. Riverrvale's been right by us every step and no more responsible thann I am. I SHOULD have sent Murry or some of our warriors along to guard. I didn't. No more on you, or even Hemlock, than me." She finishes up, and pats the cow

A pause before she says, "Perhaps we must agree to share the blame, for I do not think either of us will disown it."

"We ARE prone to stubbornness" A bit of a lip twitch at that. "I reckon it comes naturally. Shared then." She rises with the bucket "I'll talk to Stein when we get back from Silver wolf" She motions o a childling "Hey, honey, take this to the Hearth"

The girl takes it, but she looks at Brrekke, Jaw open

She nods to the childling. "Hello."

"Are.. are you Brekke Grimhand, the great dragon killer, the shacklebreaker? the formorian foe, the unrelenting judge?" the girl almost squeeks

Clem smiles "This is Beyla. She's a new adoptee.. had her dream dance. She's ..somethinng of a fan of yours"

Beyla ggives a bobbing nod at that

A blink. "The...unrelenting judge? I had not heard that one. I am Brekke. It is good to meet you, Beyla of Many Questions."

"She gave me a name" Beyla gasps, then..in most untroll like glee, races off with the milk towards the kitchen area yelling "I'm Beyla Manyquestions! I have a name given by a great elder! WOO!"

"Such a timid SHY thing" Clem says drily "if only she would show a little passion now and then" As she watches the girl go

"I may have unleashed a monster," Brekke muses.

"Afraid so" Clem smiles "But she's a cute one. Loves the legends. She includes you among them. You accidentally made her day. Ready to go?"

A slight brow furrow as she still looks where the girl has gone, then it passes as she nods. "I am. The puppies will not be ready to go for some weeks yet, but it will be good to see them."

"New life brings joy to those who have seen too much death. Afraid we both qualify" Clem walks with her towards the trods

"Truth," she agrees as she walks along.

She gives a sharp whistle to call Oak from where he's been stretching his legs along the flat farmland.

Oak returns, having had a talk with his own mother and father , or so it looks.

"Ready?" she asks the dog.

"Hey Oak. Remember when you were a pup yourself" Clem pats him, then looks at the Chief "He's serving your hold well? "

Woof! Oak asserts. his line is a line of guardians

"Of course. He is loyal and brave."

Oak wags. Yes. He's a goodboy, but it's nice to have it said aloud

She reaches down to scruff his ears.

"That he is." Clem nods . "And you've been a good home. Siv tells me her da and he are like two big kids in the snow sometimes" A chuckle

That gets a grin, "Frank enjoys getting him out for some exercise." Trying to maintain her husband's dignity at least a little.

"Oh, we cannot throw stones rounnd here. Unncle Emmit pampers Xena like a teacup poodle ever since Dagmar brought her here." A chuckle "And she's a Cane Corso." They approach the trods, and step through

Brekke joins in the chuckle, and they all vanish into the trod.
