"HA!" it's not a joyful laugh "Yes, indeed. I -should- have suspected it."

"Sounds like he's been doing that for 'guests' for a while..drug them, learn their dreamers, mooch dreamers"

"Hmph."

"When they drop their guard again, we'll pay him a visit, shall we? Or better yet, catch him off site"

"A knock over the head is too good for him." darkly.

"Dearest the -point- of the entire misadventure was to sow rumors to take attention away from Brenda-as-Gilly. Reattacking wouldn't serve the purpose."

"I meant like a year and a day from now. You know, fae schedule? Besides, you may have planted the idea in his head and false rumors more effectively than you think. Consider" She suggests "Not only did you start to ramble on some wild stories, suddenly those stories gain credence, when you were rescued or.. retrieved. He didn't see me come back.. for all he knows, a third party is trying to silence Malik the Eshu who 'knows too much'"

"Not the way my luck has been running. Perhaps you're right." he shrugs under her hands.

"Ahem," She reminds "You were celebrating not a week and a half ago, and with good reason. Chaos in a duchy? confusion?"

"Yes, yes. It went well."

He sighs. "I suppose we'll see. If Brenda needs extraction.... well, it would not be the first time I've rehomed an operative."

"mm " A nod

"Thank you, Dearest...." he pats her hand and shifts to stand "I suppose I should do something productive."

"You already have, Malik spread his lies... it was just a closer call than we like. And we do have other targets"

He doesn't stand quite yet. "I'm not sure the others are viable any longer."

"Why not?"

"After the most recent disaster, our entire modus operandi must change to avoid setting a pattern or gaining notice in the wrong ways."

"Mmm to what degree of change?"

"Complete and total." he says matter of factly "Throw any trace or hint off the path."

"Mmm so a complete false lead outside of concordia?"

"That would serve for distance, but how would it help Brenda? I suppose we could lead them to believe the murderer fled overseas....."

"Maybe." that last said sourly.

"Probably" She smiles "Then, we don't know Brenda's in trouble.. yet"

"Mmm. Have you touched base with her?"

"I have, she seems quite pleased, a much better place. and.. sympathetic to others who have been wronged"

"I'll bear that in mind. I'm out of the game, of course, but...."

"No sign she's been made? Her cover is intact?" he takes the kiss with some grace.

"Not so far anyway. She has a good alibi"

"Good. Well." he sighs again. "I suppose that's that."

"We didn't fail you know, we just hit a road bump. Failure would be we both getting captured and you spilling stuff that was personal to us, rather than planting false stories"

"Failure would have been failing you.. And/or death." he says blandly.

"Well, mmmph, neither of those happened either, excepti t killed your good mood" She strokes his face

"Oh, I'll snap out of it. What's the use of being a grump if you can't grump?" he makes a weak joke.

"The proper term is graybeard or grand dame"

"Perhaps, but I am grumpy."

She smiles affectionately "Okay, fine. You're a grump. I'm going to fetch you your Cranky slippers and a bowl of 'i Hate the world bah humbug' soup"

"Thank you." he pouts.

And she does. If he needs to sulk, she'll let him sulk

It is JUST possible he might be milking it just a bit.

And she lets him. She can't throw stones about passions can she? there's a lot of 'there there' and 'poor dear' with as much sympathy as she can muster
