Adam looks up from his laptop (an e-book open there) and looks at his phone. He pauses, then taps a text out, and sets it down.

TXT to Piper: Hey girl. Thinkin' about you.

He goes back to reading, his expression still a bit puzzled.

He gets a text back later, Hey babe. What've you been up to?

She sighs, flopping over on the bed. "It's SUPPOSED to be about civil war politics. There's only so many bugle or drummer boys . But maybe there is something to that... I'll see what the internet says."

I mean, it's a stretch. But I guess they should be happy they get anything from me, right? 😜

Silence for a couple minutes.

Then, suddenly, his phone rings.

He answers it. " 'Lo?"

"Adam! Aaaaaadam! You gotta hear this. It's this... I was looking up that stuff you said, right? About Civil War music? And this song is amazing... I just GOTTA play it for someone! Want to meet up somewhere??" Her voice eager with excitement versus the bored tone that was practically audible even over text.

"Well, not for someone. For you." He can hear the grin, the way her nose crinkles up just so.

"Yeah! Yeah, I can come over. Tell mom I've got a fare. Your place?"

"Oh, or, umm... wait wait....."

His phone bloops. Fare alert! He knows this address....

"Let's go for a drive."

"On the way."

He dresses, grabs his stuff, and thunders down the stairs. "Gotafarebacklater!!"

Piper is outside when he shows up, pacing energetically on the walk with earphones in. When she sees him, she darts over to the driver's side and waits for him to roll down the window.

Hell, he unlocks the door for her from his seat! And yes, pulls the window down if she wants.

"Hey, beautiful!"

She leans in, snaking a hand around the back of his head and giving him a long kiss. When they break, she grins and remarks, "This is the only way I'm ever taller than you..."

Oh, he kisses her back; oh, yes he does. Then a cocky grin. "Hey, when you're horizontal it evens out....."

A laugh. "Either I can't touch your feet, or I only come up to mid-chest still. Not that it's a bad view." Clipping around, she hops into the passenger's seat. "So, I'm the fare, right? Soooo.... hmmm.... where to go."

"Indoors or outdoors?" And he leans over to kiss her again.

"Ummmm.... mmmmm. Somewhere I can play for you."

Adam puts the car in gear and away they go.

"There's the lake, there's the park, there's .... I guess, my place? There's.... "

She leans out the window. "It looks like the rain has cleared up... how about the park? It's deserted after all. " A grin his way.

"You got it." He motors away to the park, but more of his attention is on Piper. "You look amazing."

She laughs a little, then grins over at him. "What, you can't be serious. The humidity is giving me a 'fro and I don't even have any makeup on."

"I'm dead serious!"

Another chuckle. "Well, you look good too. And it's not just quarantine talking. I missed you, boo."

"So we gotta stop missing each other like this, I mean... what else is there to do, right? And, I mean.... we have places we can go on the quiet. Not get crap for breaking quarantine."
