"You better not be perving on my team, Ernie" Gwen says enjoying a Blaine free school

"Why do girls do that? Why do they assume guys only want want one thing?" Ernie says in the hallway "I mean, did chuck only want one thing?"

Gwen fights a blush then says "Chuck didn't finagle a job as towel and water boy , he had his own interests." She does not bring up more than that. No, Chuck wanted the one thing, but it wasn't ALL he wanted. And she wanted it to, but darned if she'll confess that

"Because he was a football player, but the world needs waterboys too" He points out

A grumble from Gwen "Don't blame me if the co captain chucks you out some day"

"Woudl I ever?" An innocent look

"Hey" A thought occurs to the pisky " Think I'm Kirsten's type?"

Gwen's jaw drops, as if a pekinese male were showing interest in going after Mishka. You can admire the ambition, but it just makes NO sense

He wiats

"No. I don't think you are" Gwen finally says "For one thing, you seem nice. Probably help if you had something in common"

Ernie gets a dreamy look in his eyes, clasps his hands together and near his heart "But I see the good in her. I can change her."

Gwen ROLLS her eyes and stomps off

Ernie chuckles. Why should Pooka have all the fun busting chops?

"TOWEL BOY!" A shout from Kristin across the field. "Is there any gatorade left?"

"Yes, your magnificence, I'll get you some right now"

"Geez, he has a name, Kristin." Says another girl, a midfielder.

Then, she blushes a bit. "I'm sorry. I forgot your name." As she grabs a stack of cups and helps pour a bunch for the thirsty players streaming off the field. "You don't have to take it to her, she's perfectly capable of walking over herself."

The lastname across the back of her Jersey says "Sanderson"... oh, what was her name? Something alliterative... Susie? Summer? It couldn't have been Sandy, no parents are that mean.

"Call me Ernie" he says to the midfielder as he takes two cups, one for Kristin, and one for whoever else is over there "And I don't mind. Hey, what do you prefer to be called? Technically I'm Ernest but that's just too much pressure to put on a guy."

"Andi. I dropped the 'S' because my parents are jerks." An easy-going smile. The mid-fielder isn't as tall as Gwen, or even Kristin, but she has a decently well-muscled form that rude people might call stocky, she's pretty, in a generic brunette kind of way.

And sometimes it's just nice to talk to folks, or even flirt , who knows? "Oh all the Grease references. Got it, Andi. And, thanks for sticking up for me. Don't forget some gatorade for yourself. " In fact, changing his mind, he offers the second cup in his hand to her even though she's right there next to others "Got this one just for you from all the way over there" He smiles at her as he looks at the table

"Did you bring in those?" Snagging both a cup and one of the sweet treats. "Gwen normally brings stuff her mom makes - these don't look 'bakery fancy' like those do. "

A bite. "Good, though!"

"Thanks. Think I need to put some sprinkles on it for flare?" A grin

"It wouldn't hurt...." Crunch, "But its not needed. I never thought of putting a peanutbutter-caramel layer onto rice crispies. It's good!"

"Thanks. Always happy to hear a compliment for my work" A nod "Pardon, I need to get this to Kristin before she explodes"

And off he goes with easy confidence to give Kristen her gatorade

Kristin slams back the glass and drops the cup for him to pick up as she walks off, yelling over to a teammate, "Work on that footwork, Mendleson!" Ernie is ignored!

Gwen is helping Franklin with spatial awareness.

And Ernie hands out more gatorade , now and then smiling at Andi. Sure, she's a bit stocky, but then, some girls want 6 foot guys or no one despite the fact the world isn't full of trolls

Well, she did smile at him, and shared her name. It's a start!

Also, he got a personal apology from the Vice Principal.

And that was awesome!
