As he gets further along the trail, the forest grows quiet. Song birds stilled, squirrels cease chattering.

He asssumes the're scared of HIM. Enjoy nature, the trolls say. But then he scares nature and it loses charm

His next step and a stick crackles underfoot - he has only a moment's warning as a thong tightens around his ankle and threatens to sweep the foot out from under him!

A snort and he moves his foot out of the thing, then tries to stomp on it ,and DRAG it hard the opposite way the trapper wanted it to go

The snare tightens around his foot, but he moves quickly enough to prevent it from catching his ankle. The movement of his foot tears the thin line loose from where it would have snagged a smaller critter and left it twitching and suspended from a branch - HE is much too large for that, but a little slower and he would have been on his ass.

A rustle from the tree above, and a muffled curse in the branches.

"Get your ass down here" he snaps upward

"No!" The young voice snaps back down. "You broke my snare!"

"Of course I broke it, I'm like five times bigger and 20 times badder than anything you would normally catch with it. It's like trying to shoot a moose with a BB gun.. you're just gonna piss it off. You used the wrong tool on the wrong target, the tool gets broke. What are you, some nocker fledge learning the basics?"

"You weren't my target, dumbass! Maybe you got the brain of a muskrat but you smell worse then a skunk's ass! And now I need a new line!"

The childling is far up enough in the tree to be out of reach of Dirk, now that he hears her, he can see her about 10 feet up, in a nook that overlooks the trail.

"Hey I remember you, you were with that stone troll what could take a punch"

She squints down at him. "You're DIRK." She says, stating the obvious. "What the hell are you doing HERE? And in MY Snare?"

He looks down at the remnants "Breaking it looks like." Dirk looks up "Yeah I'm Dirk. You're Briar right? Dame Gladstone or whats her name mentioned you when she came by to pimp dogs. "

She scowls. "What about?" Her stomach growls, and her scowl deepens.

The brute shrugs as if he doesn't muich recall details or care "She said you helped with the dogs and their training. She talks a lot about dogs. Not that all trolls are quiet. What a waste of a kith huh? Physical power personified, but bound by rules and regulations, even the unseelie ones. They actually ADDED rules to restrain their muscle. I swear if it weren't for the nightmare kith like me in Rivervale they'd be lost"

"Yeah, it's my job. I cut up the carcasses and feed the beasts. It's bloody work. I'm good at it." Still giving him a wary look. "So why are you here? Ain't you busy being the rivervale mad dog?"

"Peacemaker," he says "But sometimes that too. I came to visit Nadie," Dirk shrugs eying the tree to see how far he could climb "She was a fledge at Rivervale, y'know?"

The tree isn't especially large - he might be able to climb it, though the branches might snap. If he had an axe or the desire for wood pulp in his teeth, he could get it down in a couple minutes, if he really wanted to. Or a good shake might send any 'fruit' falling down.

The last idea appeals to him, "You coming down?"

"You want her back? Gonna have to take THAT up with the Baron. He likes her." A snort, somewhat disgusted.

"Why should I? You can't reach me up here. I have the high ground. AND you messed up my lunch."

"Hey Obi, watch me use the force" he begins to shake the tree

"Hey! HEY! STOP THAT!" She tries to cling to the branch...

And she does, sticking to it like an annoying burr.

"Why should I? You can't reach me down here" Shake sshake

"Because... I'll... make... you.... Regret it!" She says, even as she rips leaves and small twigs off the branch and shoves them in her mouth, chewing. Glamour pops and sparks around her... a cantrip stirring.

He moves to the other side of the tree, still shaking it, using it to obsure her vision and maybe deny her a target . He's not the brightest cap but he's pretty sure there's no rule saying he has to hold still and take whatever on the chin. That's Troll bullshit

A wisp of smoke, then another one, and flames start licking up from the ground out of nowhere to give Dirk a hotfoot! That is, if he hadn't moved.

Briar curses and tries again, on the other side!

A sizzle under his boot!

She cackles!

"Oh, you know Pyretics too" A grin, and he uses his circlling that was purely evasive as a spin, hopping from the hotfoot and turning into a politcally incorrect war dance

Then he gestures and shoots a thin bolt of flame at her ass, chimerical

"Nah, nothing that fancy. Good ol' Primal. It's better. No fuckin' around with party lights, just dirt and wind and YIPE!"

She jumps away from the hotseat by instinct...

And meet gravity.

Dirk watches her fall, gauges that she might get hurt, and looks about if there's something he could use to slow her fall or act as a cusion. He COULD catch her himself, but who wants to risk fingers ?

It's not that far of a fall, enough to bruise. He could try to catch her, or let her have a thump.

He lets her have a thump

The tiny fires she had lit are sputtering out with only singe marks left - the green growth of summer is not as flammable as it might be come fall.

She scrambles to her feet and scowls up at Dirk, a mighty scowl. "Well, now I'm down here! YOU HAPPY?!"

"Kinda amused more than happy" He looks around "Was hoping you could introduce me to the local corby"

"Ain't one." She kicks at the dirt. "There's just stupid Al and he's a fuckwit."

"A fuckwit? What's he mentally disabled or something? He got Short bus privileges?? I can't say retard, upsets my mom"

"He's a jerkwit, a fucker. Ain't got no corby, and won't help a sister out. What self respectin' cap would be alone if they didn't gotta be?"
