"Oh hey.." She hits the brakes then moves just as suddenly again to greet Snowthorn "How's my big beautiful boy? I know, not as big as some... those troll horses are HUUGE... but you're still a strong soldier boy and perfect sized for regular kithain"

A whinny from the nearby adjoining paddock! The yearlings are out and frolicking, getting to know Snowthorn from the other side of a fence. People mean TREATS.

"I don't doubt that Aiden could breed some of those big thorougbred monsters - but he tends for a more streamlined look in his lines."

"There should be carrots in that bag, if the squirrels didn't find them yet. And sugar cubes." Pointing to a setup out of reach of the horses, but nearby.

"I think a carrot, no need to spoil him yet" She gets one and pats the white stallion "I suppose I should give one or two the young ones" She peeks over "how are you you little glory hogs"

"Once you're settled in, we'll ask you to join the patrol roster - you can patrol on horseback, or on foot as pleases, as most of the grounds are trails that are suitable for riding.

Ears flash and flick and the female wiggles her lips in what she hopes is an endearing fashion - looking a bit like Miz Ed.

She feeds Snowthorn his carrot first, but the lipwrigglingmakes her laugh "no shame huh?" Then a beam "I can patrol on horse back? Hell yes"

"You certainly can! Some folk even ride into town, and it's a small enough town that you'll only get a few weird looks. Thane Danica is a sargent at the local police department, so she makes sure that folk stay off our backs. There are a few loose ordinances in place that we can thank her for!"

"I will " SHe says "Though I don't think I met her yet." She feeds the little yearling a treat one after the other "Okay, this place just became my dream job"

Chomping and smacking of lips, and the little ones still young enough that their tails flip like when a foal nurses. Not dignified, but adorable.

"I'm glad you like it here. It may not be all fun and games - we had raiders on the borders not too long ago. Aside from jousting, can you fight?" He asks politely enough. "Outside of chivalric battle - some nasty folk who hear there are balefires to be had as the world gets colder, and they don't follow Pennons rules."

"yes. I was taught to fight" She nods "Probably not the best sword fighter you know, but .. I wont' get killed in the first pass"

"You may be the best sword fighter I know." He grins. "I'm a lover and a pencil pusher - Lin and Dani use hammers and axes, and Gwen has a spear. Little Briar tears things up with her fists if you let her, and although Lord Aiden CAN use a sword, he is better with his arrows. It's harder to take a stag with a sword, you see."

Thoughtful. "Dame Calanthe has a rapier, but I've not seen her fight. She mostly leaves the patrols to the 'help'."

"Maybe i should spare with Dame Calanthe and get a comparison"

He grins. "I can tell you right now, I'd pay a pretty dross penny to see someone set her on her duff. And you match her rank, too. " His smile fades a bit. "Probably not the best way to endear her to you, but.. maybe there are enough folk here who dance to her tune."

"Wait, what's her problem?" Confusion "I mean, why would she get in a huff over a spar?"

"She's used to being Alpha around here. We're most all common folk save for the Baron himself, and she doesn't let us forget it. Not all AIlil are stuck up like she is... but she's a prime example of ones who are."

"oh right.. they're super proud, have trouble admiting they're wrong" A frown

"Mostly they're just proud. But they look after their own, abide by the Escheat, and follow their code. They are good rulers... when things aren't taken to extremes. And Calanthe isn't that bad. She's just... a bit of a snob, as far as I can tell."

"Oh well, who isn't a snob on some subject. I saw a guy who put ketchup on his sphaghetti.. a grown man. Naturally I had to enchant him and kill him chimerically "

A snort, laughing. "Don't let Miz Marigold hear that, she might have a heart attack."

A grin "Miz Marigold who won second place? at cooking? I believe it"

A nod and chucke. He has strayed over close enough to give the colt and filly a few pats. "That's about it. If there's anything special you need out here, let me know. Or rather, let the holstlers know, and they can translate to me as better knowing what is a reasonable request. You can go to the baron directly if needed, but we try to avoid impinging too much on his time with his animals."

"I hope to work with him with the animals, well, the horses" She nods "oh, which room is mine?"

"Right! Let me show you." And a grin. "Race you back - if you think you remember the way?"

"Sure!" She grins and breaks into a run

"Oi!" He scrambles after her, still wiping the last of the horse slobber kisses off his hands onto his slacks, and runs in pursuit!

and she runs

They make it to the the hold, and she slows down "Whew. Ouot of practice on foot"

Julius tries to hide it, but he is a bit out of breath too. "Maybe I need to spend more time on the trails than behind a desk." He admits wryly.

"Build up the endurance chasing your lady, maybe?"

A smile

He grins. "She IS fleet of foot, but I always catch her!"

"I think ..maybe she wants you too"

"Of course - otherwise I'd not be chasing her." A chuckle. Helping gather up her belongings, "Down this way is your room..." Pointing out the dining halls, mud room, Aiden's study, and his own little office, as well as where the others stay. "The Baron's rooms are upstairs, and there's another wing up there, but it's no longer in use, so no need for you to head up there - you're more likely to find him out on the land during the day, or even on a cot here or there if there is a mare in foal or any new litters."

And she goes down "A whole wing unused? No wonder you guys weren't worried about more space being taken by a new guest. Thank you, Julius. You're a wonderful tour guide"

He doffs an imaginary hat. "There's bathrooms there, and there - the one at the end of the hall is mostly unused, so feel free to commandeer any space you need. And let me know if you need anything else."

"Tell me you have a brother my age whose as nice as you but single?" A wink

"I DO have a younger brother who is single. Or was, last time we connected. He lives in Michigan though."

"Oh! " chuckle "Called my bluff. Mmm well, if he drops by, let me know"

"Will do!" And he leaves her to get settled in.

She settles into the room she's been offered. It's out of the way and that's fine by her. She slips out of her garb, and then rubs at her leg "ooo twingy. Easy"

And she pulls out the battered harp, and starts to restring it "Guess they want music, least I can do is try"
