While not the only room with a desk and books aplenty,
no other quite compare to the study room. It has a skylight, large windows,
and lots of natural light that sprays across the tastefully mural decorated
walls. Two creatures resembling rather masculine pixies (Not androgynous
enough to be true Nevers) flutter about here lazily, until needed. Going by
the names ‘Flex’ and ‘Specs’ (The latter has glasses, but still is like a body
builder with dragonfly wings), the two are happy to move the rolling library
ladder along as directed. They don’t speak much, but clearly understand
everything asked for, and know the book collection pretty well.
Speaking of which, the book collection has a large and eclectic
collection of fiction and non-fiction. The latter includes many books in
Spanish, of course, but some in English, French, and Latin, a few change to
suit the language of the reader. Quite a few are simple ‘Spanish 1’ textbooks,
as if the hold realizes it has an influx of gringos and is trying to get them up
to speed. Others are far more advanced, and fae specific. Books on cantrips,
on the nature of the Dreaming, nocker thesis on attunement and the chaos
theory as seen by the kith; and more. Astrological charts abound, and books
on the music of spheres and when they harmonize best.
The fiction section seems fond of pulp, action adventure, and fantasy,
but there is one row of books with steamy erotic novels ranging from merely
‘naughty romance’ all the way to ‘I don’t care how old I am, I’m too young to
read this’. No one claims to read these, but they certainly seem to have less
dust on them than others.
The main desk here is made of soothing blue wood, and the back of it
has a depiction of two great toothed whales swimming in an almost ying yang
pattern. While one sits and works at it, he or she can hear the sound of sea
gulls and smell a salt air. Above the desk lingers a painting of an island, one
with jungles, golden beaches and the like. Investigation of the painting will
show a map and directions to the island on the backside. But what dangers await there?
